Nick Bailey Tree Surgeons began in the early ’90s, right in the heart of Manchester’s most exciting era – The Hacienda, The Stone Roses, the Class of ’92 – and a young lad at Manchester University who couldn’t shake the feeling that he wanted to build something of his own.

Growing up climbing trees, Nick always felt at home in the woods. But the moment that changed everything came standing on a pavement in Stretford in 1990. He looked up, saw a tree surgeon high in the crown of a street tree and thought:

“Boom — that’s exactly what I want to do.”

That spark never left.

Within months, Nick was learning the craft. Before long he was climbing, pruning and dismantling trees full-time. Soon after, he launched the company that still carries his name — an independent, owner-operated business built on passion, graft and proper arboricultural skill.

Phil has been with the company for 17 years. Before moving into operations, he spent many years working as a climber, giving him a practical understanding of what each job involves. Today, he carries out quotes right across our service area, visiting every job in person and taking the time to understand exactly what is needed before any work is scheduled – a level of commitment that has never wavered.

As a former climber, Phil understands the reality of tree work: what a job truly involves, how long it will take, how many staff are needed and where the hidden challenges lie.

He handles all quotes, planning and scheduling Monday to Friday and is known for:
